According to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) recommendations, the appropriate dock line diameter should be selected based on the size of your boat. For boats under 20 feet, a 3/8-inch dock line is recommended; for boats from 20 to 30 feet, a 1/2-inch line is suggested; for boats from 30 to 40 feet, a 5/8-inch line is recommended; for boats from 40 to 46 feet, a 3/4-inch line is suggested; for boats from 55 to 63 feet, a 7/8-inch line is recommended; and for boats from 64 to 72 feet, a 1-inch line is suggested.
